Ski Resorts
The house is only 8-10 km from Ravascletto/Monte Zoncolan/Monte Tamai, a medium sized ski resort still unspoiled by mass tourism. There is only a 20 min drive to Ravascletto, the closest ‘tourist town’. However, and if weather permits, it is highly recommended to take the 20 min drive up to the impressive highland at Zoncolan (you must have snow chains in the car in the Winter season). From the large parking area, you may take various lifts to Monte Zoncolan and to Monte Tamai, 2,000 m up with great slopes, snow canons, etc.
During Spring-Summer-Fall, where the ski resort is closed, and the whole area is open for exploration, you should turn left away from the Zoncolan parking area. This road leads to a spectacular highland (the road is steep but paved and not too challenging in a modern car). The highest point of the road is the 'goal' of one of the most demanding climbs in professional road bicycle racing. This "Zoncolan stage" has been used several times in the Giro d'Italia. See here.
There are several other ski resorts in the area, including Sella Nevea and Sappada, and 'the big ones’: Kitzbühel in Austria, and Cortina and Canazei in the South Tirol Dolomites. They can be reached from the house in a few hours. Note, however, that it takes longer than you think just from looking at a map (because of the mountain roads).
